Projects and Operations Manager

University College London - UCL Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MAPS)

The Projects & Operations Manager will assume general and specific duties to progress the work of the Faculty Office, the Faculty, and to support the Faculty Manager. S/he will line manage staff within the Faculty Office; be responsible for particular projects on behalf of the Faculty; ensure systems and processes are fit for purpose; and that UCL, Faculty, and Departmental policies and strategies are fully implemented at all times. In addition, the role-holder will be responsible for particular projects in any area of the Faculty’s business, and will assess viability, resource requirements, and impact of efficiency and effectiveness. S/he will therefore be required to rapidly develop a working knowledge and level of expertise in diverse areas of operation. The role-holder is expected to attain a level of expertise in areas such as financial and HR policy and processing, with competence using dedicated systems to support the operations of the Faculty Office (training is available). Whilst primarily concerned with activities in MAPS, close collaboration across the School of BEAMS is envisaged, and solutions applicable institution-wide will be sought and rolled out wherever possible. The role-holder will also take a lead on identifying and supporting organisational change in any area of the Faculty, or be available to cover gaps in service where other resource is unavailable. This would entail undertaking line management and leadership of teams. The Projects & Operations Manager reports to the Faculty Manager, but will also work closely with the Dean of the Faculty and other senior colleagues across the Faculty and institution.

Educated to first degree level or equivalent, experience of HEI (or equivalent) and of leading administration in a complex environment is essential, as is experience of managing and developing a team of support staff and managing change. Financial skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to project plan and operationalise strategic documents are also essential requirements for this key faculty position.
