NIHR Trainees Coordinating Centre

Fixed Term until 31 March 2019, extension to 2023 anticipated*

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and proactive individual to join the National Institute for Health Research Trainees Coordinating Centre (NIHR TCC) in the role of Programme Manager. The role will be based within team responsible for managing the NIHR Fellowships programme.

The NIHR TCC forms part of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), which was established by the Department of Health in April 2006 with the aim of creating a health research system in which the NHS supports outstanding individuals, working in world class facilities, conducting leading edge research focused on the needs of patients and the public.

The NIHR TCC is based in Leeds and contributes to one of the key goals of the NIHR Faculty, which is to attract, develop and retain the best research professionals to conduct people-based research.

The purpose of the Programme Manager post is to:

  • To take day to day responsibility for managing schemes and programmes that form part of the NIHR training and fellowship portfolio;
  • Support the Senior Programme Managers and Senior Management Team in their role of having oversight of the various funding streams;
  • Work alongside the other Programme Managers and Senior Programme Managers in NIHR TCC to ensure delivery of external projects, the various funding schemes, programmes, workshops and conferences;
  • Work flexibly across the organisation managing a diverse work load of projects and programmes;

The core work of the NIHR TCC involves:

  • Developing and managing all aspects of the NIHR Fellowship Scheme which offers support for national research training at PhD, post-doctoral, career scientist and senior research levels
  • Managing the establishment of NIHR Integrated Academic Training programmes on a national basis for those in specialist medical and dental training who want to pursue an academic career
  • Managing the establishment of NIHR Integrated Clinical Academic (ICA) programmes on a national basis for nurses, midwives and allied health professionals
  • Management of Clinician Scientist and Research Professor programmes
  • Management and establishment of jointly funded schemes and new initiatives.

The NIHR TCC is also involved in other areas of strategic work and development.

You must be an excellent communicator with the ability to prioritise, schedule, and manage the delivery of a complex, wide ranging, time-critical and unpredictable workload.
