Research Associate in Semiconducting Polymer Synthesis

Imperial College London - Department of Chemistry

Fixed Term appointment, initially for 12 Months

A Research Associate position in synthetic polymer chemistry is currently available within the group of Professor Iain McCulloch at Imperial College, London. This is a highly interdisciplinary post focussed upon the synthesis and characterisation of novel organic semiconducting materials (small molecules and polymers) for organic electronic applications including solar cells, transistors, spintronics, photocatalysis and bioelectronics. You will join part of a globally diverse group of post-docs, PhDs and Masters students in a well-resourced laboratory. You will be expected to interact with fabrication and measurement collaborators, as well as undertake materials characterization on the materials you have synthesised. There is also the opportunity to supervise research students (MSci and PhD), manage external collaborations (including a European collaborative project), and present your work at international conferences.

You will have a PhD (or be about to obtain one) or equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience in the field of Organic Polymer Chemistry. You will also have experience in organic electronic semiconducting polymers for solar cell or transistor applications, along with an understanding of state of the art metal mediated aromatic carbon – carbon coupling reactions and polymerisation strategies for the synthesis of conjugated oligomers and polymers. Candidates with an exceptionally strong organic synthesis background with a proven publishing record may be considered.

Applications are encouraged from candidates who have demonstrated an ability to design high performing solution processable organic semiconductors. Candidates should have demonstrated the ability to draft manuscripts, deliver presentations and manage projects.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £32,380 - £34,040 per annum.
