Chief Executive Officer

British Academy of Management

The British Academy of Management is a scholarly association with charitable status for academic researchers and teachers in business and management. It has grown to over 2000 members, developed a successful programme of research related grants, runs regular training events and workshops, holds an annual conference with around 900 participants, and has two highly ranked scholarly journals – the British Journal of Management and International Journal of Management Reviews.

We are seeking a Chief Executive to manage the transformational change process involved in growing our organisation in stature and influence. Maintaining activities through the leadership of the staff involved is fundamentally important as is the work required to prepare BAM for the next stages in its strategic development. This includes growing BAM’s reach and impact: partly through extending BAM’s policy and PR impact and relationships with sibling and practitioner institutions in the UK and beyond; and working with members of BAM’s elected executive and council to achieve our strategic aims. In order to resource the ambitions of the step change in this organisation, the CEO should be able to demonstrate competency applicable to generating sustainable revenue streams.

You will have a close understanding of management of charitable / member organizations (ideally within of the university research and academic context) and have had significant relevant leadership experience. You may currently or recently have worked in a similar organization or in a leadership role in a university with a significant income generation and change management component. The ability to work well within a governance structure and with a network of volunteer BAM members with formal roles in the organization is essential.

The post will be based in our London office, but we are willing to consider some flexibility in this arrangement.

For initial discussions contact: Nic Beech (Chair) (01382 384177) or Anne Clare Gillon (Vice Chair, SIGs) (0141-848-3465 anneclare.gillon@uws.ac.uk).

Application: Please download the application form and information from the BAM Web site at: https://www.bam.ac.uk/news-story/9470

Please return applications to Michael Fong, BAM Office: mfong@bam.ac.uk

Closing date: 24 October 2017
Interview date: In November 2017, the exact date to be announced in due course
