Digital / e-Learning Developer for the AgriFood Training Partnership

The AgriFood Training Partnership (AFTP) is a collaboration of six world-renowned UK universities that provides high-level skills and training courses to people based in the food and agriculture industries. The AFTP formally launched in July 2017, although some of the IT infrastructure remains under development as the unification process of the three previous Advanced Training Partnerships continues.

The role will be based within the AgriFood Training Partnership operational team at the University of Reading, but will involve close liaison with staff based around the consortium, particularly the business development and marketing team. Your work will mainly focus on the continued development and maintenance of the Customer Relationship Management and Content Management System platforms that underpin the AgriFood Training Partnership website, but there will also be a substantial amount of conversion of subject-specific content provided by academics to an e-learning format suitable for hosting on Virtual Learning Environments across the AgriFood Training Partnership.

Predominantly, work will be of a technical and creative nature, but candidates with an appreciation of subjects relevant to the agrifood sector e.g. agriculture, biology, microbiology, nutrition, food law are particularly valued.

You will have:

  • The ability to perform HTML, CSS, JQuery and JavaScript programming.
  • Knowledge of image processing and editing using creative software packages.
  • Experience of video and sound production - from planning and recording through to editing and delivery online.
  • A strong understanding of web development and important related practices such as cross-browser compatibility, SEO, and accessibility standards.
  • The ability to develop online content responsively for mobile platforms.
  • An honours degree or equivalent in a Life Sciences subject or in Media and Design.
  • Experience of using Virtual Learning Environments to develop and deliver online course materials. The ability to work to agreed deadlines and experience of planning, organising and delivering complex projects.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience of working alongside academic staff and subject-matter experts in the HE sector.
  • The ability to produce video animations using creative software.
  • Experience of collaborating on development projects using versioning control.
  • Practical skills in e-learning authoring software.
  • Core knowledge of subjects which relate to the agrifood sector e.g. agriculture, biology, microbiology and nutrition.
  • Experience of developing websites using a Content Management System.
