Lecturer in Illustration: Animation & the Screen (T&S)

BA (Hons) Illustration is a vibrant programme of study in School of Art, Design and Architecture. Students from the course regularly win top awards and competitions, and gain employment in illustration, design, and publishing regionally, nationally, and internationally. The programme includes connected award pathways – Animation & the Screen, Children’s Markets, Comics & Visual Narratives, and Printmaking.

We are looking for someone with proven academic critical skills in an HE teaching environment, combined with practical creative animation experience, to support primarily undergraduate study and lead the development of the Animation & the Screen Award. You will contribute to practical and theoretical teaching and research in Illustration and have practical working knowledge in some of the following software and processes – Adobe Creative suite (After Effects/Adobe Animate/Flash/Premiere), Toon Boom Harmony, Toon Boom Storyboard, Autodesk Maya, 3ds Max, Unity, Moho, Duik, Rostrum work - Stop motion, Cel/paper animation, Walk cycles, Lip sync, Storyboarding, Animatic production, Leicas, Audio. The post may also involve input at postgraduate level and contribute to the development of illustration for research (PhDs and post-doctoral) and innovation (commercialisation and public engagement). 

You will hold a high-level degree or have equivalent experience in a relevant discipline and be able to demonstrate an established research track record and evolving profile appropriate to the role. Experience in masters/doctoral supervising is desirable. We will also consider applicants with extensive practical or industrial experience in relevant areas.

Working closely with the programme leader, you will undertake curriculum development and course management as required. Key aspects of the role include delivery of teaching/lectures, module leadership, supervision of practical and theoretical study, personal tutoring, assessment and feedback, maintaining quality of delivery, as well as helping with the organisation of educational field trips/visits, visiting lectures, career spines, student work placements, and end of year shows.
