Applications are invited for the permanent post of Professor or Full Professor in Small Animal Surgery.

The Section of Small Animal Clinical Studies of the School of Veterinary Medicine in UCD has created one permanent post at a senior level to support continued growth and strategic planning in the small animal surgery area. Appointment is available at different grades, Professor or Full Professor in Small Animal Surgery, subject to qualifications and experience of the candidates. The mandatory criteria will be taken into consideration in the context of the career stage of the candidate and the level at which the candidate would be appointed.

Applicants must hold a degree in veterinary medicine registerable with the Veterinary Council of Ireland or a specialist degree with which an application for limited registration with the Veterinary Council (see could be made. The successful applicant must be an active specialist in Small Animal Surgery with European (ECVS) or American (ACVS) board certification.

The successful candidate will provide leadership and contribute effectively to the Section of Small Animal Clinical Studies and the UCD Veterinary Hospital and in particular, will participate fully in undergraduate (clinical) teaching, in postgraduate residency training, and in the Small Animal Surgery service provided by the Hospital. The successful candidate will also engage in original collaborative national and international research leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals, obtaining funding and fostering collaborations, both nationally and internationally. The grade of the appointment will reflect the level of achievement across the themes of clinical expertise, clinical teaching, academic activity and research.

Professor Salary Scale: €80,651- €106,656 per annum


Full Professor Salary Scale: €110,060 - €139,501 per annum

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.
