Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow (Metaphysics or Epistemology)

Australian Catholic University

  • Full-time, Research appointment, five-year fixed-term or ongoing
  • Area of Specialisation: Epistemology or Metaphysics

ACU’s Institute for Religion and Critical Inquiry seeks candidates of outstanding potential and demonstrated achievement with expertise in epistemology or metaphysics, both broadly conceived. We have a special interest in questions relating to ethics, particularly as related to society and politics, but seek outstanding researchers with research expertise across all areas of epistemology or metaphysics. For further information, please see the ‘Position Purpose’ in the Position Description  PD Research Fellow Level B. Epistemology or Metaphysics.pdf

Research Fellows and Senior Research Fellows have a primary focus on research but some teaching, especially of graduate students, may be required. They will be expected to develop their own research leading to high-quality publications, to participate in collaborative research, and to contribute to the collegial life of the Institute.

The Institute seeks to build connections with leading scholars and universities internationally. For example, it hosts regular international ACU Rome Seminars, such as the ‘Global Issues in Ethics’ series led by Professor Robert Audi. Established in 2014 to contribute to the University’s strategic goal of making ACU one of Australia’s leading institutions for religious and philosophical studies, the Institute for Religion and Critical Inquiry currently comprises four research centres: the Centre for Biblical and Early Christian Studies; the Centre for Catholic Thought and Practice; the Centre for Religion, Philosophy and Culture; and, the Centre for Moral Philosophy and Applied Ethics.

ACU is an inclusive community that welcomes students and staff of all faiths and no faith. It enrols more than 35,000 students across seven campuses – Adelaide, Ballarat, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, North Sydney and Strathfield (Sydney). As valued members of our community, all staff members are expected to have an understanding of ACU’s mission and values and to demonstrate an active contribution to them.

Remuneration: Research Fellow salary starts at $96,477 + 17% employer superannuation contribution. Senior Research Fellow starts at $120,882 + 17% employer superannuation contribution.
