Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Livestock Health and Welfare

University of Liverpool - Epidemiology and Population Health

The Institute of Infection and Global Health, established in 2010 to bring together leading infection and global health researchers from across the University, has had phenomenal success integrating veterinary, medical, and basic sciences to impact on major infectious diseases in the UK and globally. Capitalising on our outstanding success in REF 2014 and the twenty-eight Faculty appointments made over the last five years, we are continuing to build research capacity across our five major research themes:

  1. Understanding how pathogens cause disease;
  2. Pioneering diagnostics, treatments, and vaccines;
  3. Enhancing food safety and food security;
  4. Tracking emerging and zoonotic infections; and
  5. Improving the health of pets, working animals, and their owners.

You will have an excellent track record. Whilst we will consider individuals working in any of our five major themes, we are especially keen to appoint in the areas of One Health, veterinary epidemiology, animal health economics, parasitology, micro/molecular biology, veterinary and zoonotic infectious diseases including emerging and endemic diseases.

The post, based at Leahurst Campus, will also involve teaching final year veterinary undergraduates population-level farm animal medicine and herd health planning. This is mainly via small group teaching, including extensive on-farm teaching. Teaching will be through the Institute of Veterinary Science.

Applications are invited from individuals with quality outputs who wish to develop their careers to a higher level within our excellent research and teaching environment. You should have experience in dairy veterinary medicine and a PhD in a relevant research area. You will be expected to attract research funding, deliver high quality teaching, and successfully supervise PhD students.
