Eligibility: PhD in a relevant discipline with a min. of 3 years and no more than 5 years’ relevant experience. 

The combined duration of this contract combined with any other PD contracts must not exceed 6 years in total.  Not permitted to have longer than 3 years as PD1 and 3 years as PD2.

Post Duration: The indicative duration of 17 months, but not exceeding the above project end date, subject to contract.  Temporary Funded Contract Post.

A panel may be formed from which future similar vacancies may be filled.

Location: Teagasc Food Research Centre, Moorepark, Fermoy, Co. Cork

Training Rate: Appointment will be at the minimum point of the Post Doctoral Level 2 (PD2) scale (€39,155).

The current PD2 scale is as follows: PD2: €39,155 (min.); €40,279; €41,437 (max.)

Increments will be awarded annually* subject to performance and completion of the prescribed training plan.   

Basic Function of the post:

This post-doctoral scientist will be involved in Spoke 2 of the APC, and will work with a team of scientists and post-graduate students focusing on the identification and characterisation of mode of action of select probiotics, focusing the isolation and/or generation of probiotic strains which generate healthy fatty acids.  These will be investigated to determine their in vivo affect and impact on host health.  Experience in microbiota composition and functional potential is relevant to the role. The appointee will perform microbiota and faecal metabolite analysis and experience in GC analysis would be useful.

Essential

  • v Candidates must have PhD degree in microbiology, biochemistry, nutrition or a related discipline awarded in the past 3-5 year term.
  • v Relevant post-doctoral experience.

Desirable

  • Evidence of teamwork and collaboration with relevant partners.
  • Expertise in gut microbiology and molecular biology.
