Post-Doctoral Research Assistant (FLOODMAL Project)

Aberystwyth University

To promote a flexible workforce, the University will consider applications from individuals seeking full time, part time, job share, or term time only working arrangements.

This is an exciting new project funded by the Natural Environment Research Council to investigate the use of hydraulic flood modelling to predict malarial mosquito habitat distribution and dynamics in the Upper Zambezi floodplain in Western Zambia. To achieve this aim, knowledge and experience will be drawn from a multi-disciplinary team from both biological and physical geography disciplines across three institutes: Aberystwyth University (Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences; Department of Geography and Earth Sciences), Leeds University (School of Geography) and University of Lincoln (School of Geography).

We intend to couple established techniques across the fields of earth observation, flood modelling and mosquito vector spatial ecology to develop a process understanding of the relationship between flooding in major river systems and malaria transmission at the catchment scale in sub-Saharan Africa.
