Building Services Assistant (Help Desk)

The University Library is seeking to recruit a Building Services Assistant (BSA) to join our team of BSAs within Building Services Department. The purpose of the role is to actively contribute to the Building Services (BS) Team in such a way as to allow the service to be wide ranging, agile and customer focussed. The team accommodates the demands associated with building maintenance and standards set by Estates Management and/or other regulatory bodies. The BSA role is an important member of the BS workforce, and takes on a variety of tasks to ensure the building is well maintained, safety regulations are observed at all times and the service is flexibly manned during Library opening hours in order that staff and readers can expect customer orientated help and support, during Library opening hours.

The role reports into the Building Services Supervisor and allocates work daily or on a project basis from the Help Desk service area within BS. This role is varied and responsible for a number of technical and non-technical maintenance/repair tasks across the Library as well as being a member of the BS emergency response team in times of disaster response (e.g. flooding, fire, other). In addition, this role is developmental by nature and the role holder will be expected to work with other skill sets on the team to improve your on the job knowledge and skills in a variety of areas where your skills can be enhanced to benefit the service or colleagues on the team, overall. Opportunities to improve your core skills will therefore be available to you on the job. The role holder must be a strong team player/contributor and be agile with the ability to think on your feet, communicating effectively and responding to issues happening around the Library, or escalating them where appropriate. You will need to remain calm, considerate and clear thinking/team orientated at all times, acting rationally and confidently, using safe and considerate working methods at all times.
