Chair in Entrepreneurship

University of Liverpool - Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences - The University of Liverpool Management School

The University of Liverpool Management School (ULMS) seeks to appoint an outstanding academic leader as Chair in Entrepreneurship.

The School sits in the top 5% of business schools globally and is well positioned to enhance its national and international standing as it moves into its next phase of development, giving particular emphasis to extending the volume and reach of its world-class research activity. AACSB accredited and with its full-time MBA ranked in the Economist top 100, ULMS has 170 academic staff who enjoy a strongly collegial, research-supportive, and intellectually vibrant interdisciplinary environment. Well-connected with industry and the professions, the School’s research activity and external relationships have clear real-world impact. The School’s new extension in the Georgian quarter of Liverpool has state-of-the-art facilities including a trading room and a marketing suite.

Student numbers, calibre and satisfaction are high, with a strong PhD cohort. In addition to the main Liverpool campus, ULMS offers a range of City-relevant programmes at its London campus in Finsbury Square, including a CFA recognised Masters in Finance and Investment Management, and significant online provision, as well as programme and research collaborations with its international partner, the International Business School, Suzhou (the Business School at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, near Shanghai).

In its wider University setting, the School benefits both from connections with key research institutes (the Institute of Risk and Uncertainty, and the Heseltine Institute of Public Policy) and the on-going advancement of the University under the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Janet Beer, and from its location in a city which combines strong cultural activity, excellent transport links, and regional beauty with a world heritage skyline.  Liverpool is highly ranked on quality of life in the UK, while remaining one of Britain’s most affordable cities.

The Chair in Entrepreneurship will join the School’s Strategy, International Business and Entrepreneurship (SIBE) Group, which has over thirty faculty members who are involved in the delivery of specialist undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including an MSc in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management, and who also contribute a wide range of modules to the School’s general management programmes and the MBA. With interests spanning across Strategy, International Business, and Entrepreneurship, members of the Group address key issues in these fields relevant to both academics and practitioners.

The Chair will take the lead in building partnerships with SMEs and social entrepreneurs within the region and beyond, and in attracting funds from commercial, public, and third sector sources.  The appointee will be expected to take a key role in developing the School’s newly-formed Centre for Entrepreneurship, delivering impact and promoting outstanding academic research that is relevant to the needs of practitioners.

An excellent track record of delivering impact, building partnerships, and attracting funding – alongside an ability to publish in highly-rated, peer reviewed journals and a commitment to promoting research that meets the highest international standards of scholarship  – is central to the requirements of the role.

Salary will be internationally competitive, commensurate with the appointee’s accomplishment and potential.

Formal interviews will be held at the University on Friday, 8 December 2017, with short-listed candidates being invited to give a presentation to the School and to meet academic colleagues the day before.
