The School of Computing is active in both teaching and researching computer security, networking, digital forensics, and software engineering, with strong links to the security industry and law enforcement.  The School has a range of courses across the subject area including a GCHQ certified MSc and related undergraduate courses. We host The Cyber Academy, which acts as a hub for developing constructive cyber security-focused relationships with government, research councils and industry.

The Role

This is an opportunity to join a prestigious and rapidly expanding centre for teaching and research into cyber security. The successful candidate will bring their expertise in software security to join the team and take part in lecturing and research.

Developing secure software is a key feature of this role and this specialism would create new opportunities for you to build on our existing expertise in software engineering and cyber security. We have an interest in applicants for all academic levels - Professorship, Associate Professorship and Lectureship. Applicants for a Professorship would have a strong track record in building up research and teaching in the area of software security and would lead this emerging area.  Applicants for an Associate Professorship would be expected to have a research income track record and an emerging profile in software security. Applicants for a Lectureship would have a publication track record. In all cases, you will contribute individually, as well as helping to develop other researchers in the group. In return, you will be well supported by the Professors and Associate Professors in the existing team.

Who We Are Looking For

Applicants must demonstrate:

  1. A doctoral level qualification in the relevant discipline.  
  2. Evidence of a professional academic and research profile alongside a commitment to sustained continuous professional/academic development.
  3. Sufficient breadth and depth of experience in specialism to develop high quality teaching/learning and research programmes and have experience of research led teaching and/or training. 
  4. Demonstrable evidence of a teaching specialisation. 
  5. Demonstrate a level of achievement appropriate to the post being applied for, including international/ national standing, research track record of high quality outputs, external income generation, and academic leadership.
  6. Demonstrable teaching knowledge and research activity in the areas of software security.

Benefits We Offer

  • Lecturer, Grade 6 - GBP 38,183 - GBP 46,924 per annum
  • Associate Professor, Grade 7 - GBP 49,149 - GBP 56,950 per annum
  • Professor, Grade 8 to 10 - GBP 62,217- GBP 101,032 per annum
