Research Associate: Quantum Annealing Experiment

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £34,635- £41,864 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

Paul Warburton’s group at University College London is looking to appoint an experimentalist postdoctoral research associate to work on quantum annealing using aluminium SQUIDs. The postdoc will work on the design and measurement of circuit elements of a prototype quantum annealing machine, working as part of the multi-institution international "FluQS" project funded by the US government agency IARPA.

This position is funded for one year in the first instance, with options for four further years subject to satisfactory progress of the project.

Candidates should have a PhD in experimental physics or experimental materials science or experimental electrical engineering. He or she will have hands-on experience of performing electrical transport measurements in a dilution refrigerator; hands-on experience of performing radio frequency measurements in a dilution refrigerator at frequencies above 1 GHz; hands-on experience of performing measurements on Josephson junctions or superconducting quantum interference devices; and a record of publication in peer-reviewed academic journals as first author.
