Are you looking for an opportunity to apply your data science skills to real world problems? This is an exciting opportunity for a PhD qualified graduate to take on this strategic project with the support of mentors from the company, Aston University and Innovate UK. The project will develop a novel search engine to deliver unique search engine intelligence and web trend data.

Candidate Profile

  • PhD including Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence or a masters degree and significant experience in application of these techniques.
  • Strong foundation in data science with data analytics and machine learning algorithms experience.
  • Industrial/ commercial experience
  • Experience or understanding of Agile/ Lean product development
  • Strong organisational skills to take project ownership and achieve agreed objectives
  • Ability to communicate ideas at all levels and recognise and adapt to the audience’s needs

This project is a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) funded by the company and Innovate UK. As a KTP Associate you will have a dedicated £6K budget to access extensive Personal Development opportunities to support the project and your future career. To learn more go to

The Company

The company are a high tech firm working in a highly competitive space so some details have been redacted for commercial confidentiality. It provides services primarily to the digital marketing sector with 80% of revenue from export sales. This technologically driven company is based around large scale aggregation and analysis of Big Data.

Aston University: You will work in a project team with Drs Luca Rossi, Yulan He & Xiaorui Jiang at Aston University, The academic team is part of Aston’s Systems Analytics Research Institute a leading centre for research in applicable methods for extracting exploitable knowledge from huge amounts of interconnected, multiscale and multivariable data.
