Trainee Academic Support Librarian (Part Time)

University of Salford - The Library

Permanent or length of contract: Fixed Term – 12 months

Part time/full time: Part Time – 0.5 FTE

The University of Salford is looking for someone with exceptional potential who has the skills and attributes needed to help our students and staff access, develop and share knowledge in innovative and engaging ways.

The Trainee Academic Support Librarian will work within the Library’s Learning and Research Support team, which partners with academic schools and professional services to support learning, teaching and research across the University. You will need the ability to build strong working relationships with a diverse range of people, to seek out new and better ways of doing things, and to help inspire and develop students’ learning in support of the University vision: “By pioneering exceptional industry partnerships we will lead the way in real-world experiences, preparing students for life.”

Over the course of this fixed-term contract, you will develop personally and professionally by immersing yourself into the role of an Academic Support Librarian, with many of the same responsibilities, while also engaging proactively with a programme of activities, training, mentoring and self-directed learning to support your development. Working closely with Learning and Research Support colleagues, your responsibilities will include: delivering engaging information and digital literacy training and advice; helping to ensure Library collections and services meet users’ needs; and contributing to Library support for researchers and the open research agenda.

The Trainee initial appointment will be on a part-time (0.5 FTE) basis and for a fixed term of 12 months. On completion of the 12-month training period there may be the possibility of progression to a permanent part-time position. This role is suitable for someone seeking a first Librarian position or a change in career pathway.
