Research Associate/Fellow in Material Interface Analysis

Salary: £26,495 to £38,833 per annum, depending on skills and experience (minimum £29799 with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance

The post holder will be responsible for the analytical challenges of determining interface/interphase evolution at the microscale as related to adjacent voxels in 3D printed functional objects formed from different materials. You will help coordinate work between researchers from Nottingham, Birmingham and Warwick Universities and many disciplines as part of this larger project with other investigators, PDRA’s and PhDs. To meet the objectives of Research Challenge 1, we will deploy a suite of complementary techniques for generating microscale material volumes and observing their fluid-side deposition and evolution to solid. You will deploy a range of bulk and highly specialist interface characterisation techniques (including, (cryo)electron microscopy, time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectroscopy, probe microscopy, Raman microscopy, micro x-ray computer tomography (CT ) and imaging ambient mass spectrometries (PADI, DESI) for post deposition analysis of the interface of deposited materials. Determination and, indeed, evolution of the appropriate methods for deposition, observation and, particularly, characterisation will be a major challenge. You will take the lead in dissemination of these advances within the project, on-line, in print and at conferences.
