Research Associate/Senior Research Associate (Hofer and Mrsic-Flogel Laboratories)

University College London - Sainsbury Wellcome Centre

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £34,635 - £41,864 (Research Associate) or £43,023 - £50,753 (Senior Research Associate) per annum inclusive of London Allowance; a higher salary may be available for an exceptional candidate.

The Sainsbury Wellcome Centre (SWC) commenced research operations in Spring 2016 bringing together world-leading scientists to investigate how brain circuits process information to generate perception, form memories and guide behaviour. Developed through the vision and partnership of the Gatsby Charitable Foundation and Wellcome, and with substantial investment from these partners, the mission of the SWC is to generate and test experimentally tractable theories of brain function.

SWC is now looking for four outstanding researchers to join Sonja Hofer and Tom Mrsic-Flogel’s laboratories.  The researchers will be responsible for the design and delivery of projects within the labs, using advanced techniques to analyse neural data, and disseminating experimental plans and results.   As well as supporting junior members of the lab, staff will work collaboratively with others at SWC, as well as building links with the international neuroscience community.   The posts are funded for two years in the first instance.

The ideal candidates will have experience with optical or electrophysiological recordings in vivo and behavioural neuroscience, be familiar with the hardware and software developments required for the design and control of novel behavioural assays, and be competent in advanced techniques of neural data analysis. However, highly motivated candidates with expertise in Physics, Math, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Computer Science are also encouraged to apply. Candidates wishing to be appointed as a Senior Research Associate at Grade 8 would be expected to demonstrate experience of guiding and supervising a small team of researchers and laboratory support staff.
