Limit of tenure: Three years in the first instance

We require a Theatre Assistant to provide support to a team of Theatre Nurses and another Theatre Assistant who will work as part of a larger team of nurses, clinicians, surgeons, anaesthetists and students within the Queens Veterinary School Hospital.

You will be responsible for assisting in the efficient running of the small animal suites, and will maintain the cleanliness of the small animal theatre suites (which include five surgical theatres, an endoscopy suite and dental room), surgical equipment and instruments and assist in restocking theatre consumables. This is a key role in ensuring that the theatres are operating at maximum capacity in a clean and sterile environment and that surgical equipment is clean and sterile for use in a timely manner.

No formal qualifications are required, and no previous experience of working in a Theatre is needed as full training will be given, however applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have the ability to clean to an excellent standard and that they are able to maintain high standards of cleanliness. An interest in Theatre work and the ability to acquire new skills are essential. The role requires a good level of fitness due to the physical tasks involved in the role.

You should be familiar and comfortable with levels of animal contact and have a knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety in the workplace.

The ability to communicate well with all levels of staff and to work as part of a team is essential
