Head of Business Engagement and Enterprise Services

University of Hull – Research and Enterprise - Commercialisation

The University of Hull combines a rich heritage of academic excellence with a commitment to social impact and a global and future-oriented outlook. With over 16,000 students and a strong academic offer, the University is recognised for its excellence in learning and teaching as well as for its commitment to research, enterprise and engagement. Placing students at the heart of its mission, Hull prides itself in offering a first-class student experience, innovative and modern curricula, and with significant investment in both technological and physical infrastructure, including the refurbishment of the Brynmor Jones Library, a truly outstanding learning environment.

The University has a bold and ambitious Strategic Plan for the period 2016-2020. Central to this plan is the University’s intent to increase the quality, scale and scope of its research and enterprise activities.

We are now seeking to appoint a Head of Business Engagement and Enterprise Services to lead our commercialisation activities at this exciting time.

The University’s commercialisation team is responsible for the end-to-end commercialisation process, from negotiating research and enterprise contracts through to invention disclosure and successful exploitation. The team is portfolio-led, with progress in each individual area forming the pipeline for the next stage in the process. The team is structured around four key areas: contract development, intellectual property, incubation, and ventures.

Reporting to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research, Enterprise and Marketing), the appointed individual will have the opportunity to shape the future of the University’s enterprise activities by developing, obtaining approval for, and implementing a new commercialisation strategy. He/she will lead the team of multi-disciplinary skilled staff in the commercialisation team and will be responsible for the University’s Enterprise Centre. He/she will manage the enterprise-related budgets, including the University’s HEIF allocation.

We are looking for an outstanding individual with experience of dynamic leadership, the ability to develop effective working relationships both within the University and externally, and a strong commitment to excellence and innovation. You will have an excellent understanding of intellectual property and how best to exploit it.

You will report directly to the PVC (Research, Enterprise and Marketing), becoming part of a high-performing and ambitious leadership team. You will be comfortable working to targets and delivering to tight deadlines.

The post is available immediately.
