Desktop Services Technician

Liverpool John Moores University - IT Services

Liverpool John Moores University has long held an important presence in the educational and cultural landscape of one of the most famous and liveliest cities in the world. With its position within the top 40 largest universities in the country, 2 commendations from the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education and recently being named University of the Year at Educate North Awards and celebrating 25 years since gaining university status; LJMU is one of the leading modern civic Universities in the country as well as being one of the largest employers in Merseyside.

A resilient I.T. infrastructure is critical to the success of the organisation. The centralised IT Services department supports the University’s distributed computing facilities; providing in excess of 5,000 PCs running over 550 applications with over 400 physical and virtual servers on the University network which is used by over 25,000 students and 2,000 staff.

Working in the Technical Support Team, supporting the most visible part of the technology landscape, you will join a small team within the Technical Support Group, with responsibility for the physical setup, installation and maintenance of desktop, laptop and tablet PCs throughout the University.

You will be experienced in all aspects of PC hardware configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting and will also be able to demonstrate excellent customer facing skills, and a good understanding of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.

IT Services manages all University Desktop and Laptop PCs for both staff and students of the University. Student PCs are currently Windows 10 while the Staff PCs are predominantly still Windows 7, but the process of upgrading these to Windows 10 is now underway.

This is an exciting time for the support of desktop computing, as the University has a growing and diversifying PC estate, which is expected to extend to provide other technologies such as Apple and mobile devices in the near future, so any additional experience in those areas would be desirable.

Closing date: 29 October 2017

LJMU is committed to achieving equality of opportunity.
