JAK/STAT signalling, computational biology, transcriptional regulation, myeloid malignancies; Stem Cell dynamics

Applications are invited for a full-time Research Associate to work with the groups of Professor Tony Green and Professor Bertie Gottgens in the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute ( on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.  The Green and Gottgens groups have an international track record in applying cutting edge approaches (including single cell genomics) to the study of normal and malignant blood stem cells (for example: Scialdone et al Nature 2016, Park et al EMBO J 2016, Wilson et al Cell Stem Cell 2015, Ortman et al, NEJM 2015, Nangalia et al, NEJM 2013).

The post holder will join a team focusing on JAK/STAT transcriptional programs in normal haematopoiesis and how these are subverted in myeloid malignancies. This work will build on our identification of an unexpected genome-wide role for tyrosine un-phosphorylated STATs (Park et al EMBO 2016).

The successful candidate must have a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, together with experience of genome-scale approaches to studying transcriptional regulation and/or cytokine signalling in the context of haematopoiesis or haematological malignancies. The ability to work independently, together with excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills are all essential.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.

The post holder will initially be based within the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research ( ) pending relocation to the new Stem Cell Institute in 2018
