Lecturer in Remote Sensing - AC2142HM

University of St Andrews - School of Geography and Sustainable Development

Start Date: Negotiable but as soon as possible

The School of Geography and Sustainable Development is seeking to appoint a suitably-qualified person to a new lectureship in remote sensing, building on recent appointments in physical geography and on-going collaborations with the Scottish Oceans Institute. The person appointed will bring expertise in remote sensing methods and analysis to the School and should have demonstrated expertise in applying remote sensing to physical geography and/or related disciplines.

Applicants with experience in using remote sensing in the fields of glaciology/cryospheric science, tropical ecology or ocean science are particularly welcomed. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of the Bell-Edwards Centre for Geographical Data Visualisation and Analysis, a new facility for inter-disciplinary research and teaching in the School of Geography and Sustainable Development.

The School has a very active research culture and strong track record of research that ‘makes a difference’ in terms of wider impact and engagement with stakeholders. The candidate will be affiliated with the Environmental Change Research Group. In terms of teaching, the new appointment will develop undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and courses on remote sensing methods, in addition to contributing to new and existing modules on GIS and physical geography.

The University is committed to equality for all, demonstrated through our working on diversity awards (ECU Athena SWAN/Race Charters; Carer Positive; LGBT Charter; and Stonewall).  More details can be found at http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/diversityawards/.

Informal enquiries to: Professor William Austin (Head of School); Professor Doug Benn (contact details).

Closing Date: 31 December 2017
