This post is a fixed term contract for 3 years.

The School of Engineering seeks to appoint a research fellow to undertake research as part of the Leverhulme Trust funded project "The Nature of Interatomic Forces in Metallic Systems".

You will have a developing research profile with the ability to publish high quality research. You will have experience with first principles calculations at the level of density functional theory and proven scientific software development skills using C, Fortran, Python or Julia. Experience with machine learning approaches, development of interatomic potentials (e.g. bond order potentials) and/or tight binding models would be an advantage.

Two linked postdoc positions are available, one in Mathematics and one in Engineering, and close collaboration between numerical analysis and materials modelling will be required. You will undertake independent and collaborative research and will be expected to write up your research for publication, and will be responsible for ensuring that project objectives and deadlines are met.
