Aston University - Aston Business School

Closing Date: 23.59 hours GMT on Wednesday 10 January 2018

Interview Date: To be confirmed

Aston Business School is one of Europe’s leading business schools, with 78% of its research rated world-leading or internationally excellent by REF 2014. It is accredited by AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. There is a thriving research culture in the Accounting Department which we seek to strengthen. We have a strong reputation for rigorous and relevant research that informs teaching and makes a sustainable difference to people, organisations and society. The department hosts the annual Management Accounting Research Group (MARG) Conference and in 2017 we developed an ‘NGO Accounting and Accountability’ research day which we plan to hold annually. We also have strong research interests in accountability and governance areas which we are seeking to further strengthen. Staff are supported to participate in local and international conferences, supervise PhDs via Dean’s or ESRC scholarships, and engage and develop networking opportunities with businesses and professions. Other research support includes funded opportunities to host prominent visiting scholars, seed corn funding for research projects and excellent support for research grant applications.

We seek an inspirational and motivated individual to contribute to the Department’s research, teaching and enterprise activities. Ideally we are looking for an ambitious individual who is prepared to work towards a promotion to Chair within a short space of time. Applicants should demonstrate a passion for their subject and be able to communicate that passion effectively to the academic and wider communities. We are keen to discuss new ideas in order to strengthen our existing research profile and complement our teaching provision. Candidates must be able to demonstrate world-leading, impactful research output and have a proven well-cited publication record in leading accounting and related journals. Further, they must have significant experience in leading externally funded research projects, mentoring junior faculty and doctoral/postdoctoral research supervision.

The Accounting Department at Aston Business School has 21 full-time/part-time members of staff. The department offers dedicated undergraduate (B.Sc. Accounting for Management) and two postgraduate (M.Sc. in Accounting and Finance and International Accounting and Finance) programmes in accounting. We also teach online offerings and overseas. Aston University is ranked Gold in the TEF which found that our students from all backgrounds achieve ‘consistently outstanding outcomes’ at Aston, with very high proportions of students going into highly skilled employment or further study.
