Associate Professorship in Roman Archaeology and Art

The Faculty of Classics seeks to appoint an Associate Professor of Roman Archaeology and Art, with effect from 1 October 2018. This post will be held in association with Wolfson College, Oxford.

The appointment will be a permanent post (after initial probation). The total university stipend is on the scale £46,336 - £62,219 p.a., plus allowances (including Governing Body Fellowship of £2,530). The appointment will be pensionable under the USS scheme.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding researcher and teacher in Roman Archaeology and Art broadly defined, with the ability to teach and supervise research across a broad chronological range from ca. 300 BC – AD 300. She or he will be able to teach a broad range of topics in Roman material and visual culture, covering settlement and burial archaeology, artefacts, art, images, monuments, architecture. The appointee will attract and teach graduate students in Roman Archaeology and Art and will supervise graduate student theses. S/he will be required to conduct research, give lectures, classes and tutorials, supervise, support and examine students at all levels, and engage in the administrative work of the Faculty and the College – in examination assessment, admissions processes, and faculty administration.
