Post Doctoral Research Associate in Atomic and Molecular Physics

Durham University - Department of Physics

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available to pursue experimental research in the field of quantum many body physics using thermal and laser cooled Rydberg atoms. The position is associated with the 5 year EPSRC-funded project “Atom-based Quantum Photonics” within the Durham Atomic and Molecular Physics group. The project is builds on our recent success in observing charge-mediated interactions in a Sr atomic beam, and will investigate their effect on the collective optical properties, with the aim of observing and studying effects such as optical bistability. It is also closely linked to our work on Rydberg-induced interactions in ultracold clouds of Sr atoms.

The successful applicant will work directly with Dr Matthew Jones and other members of the research group and will be expected to take an active role in the operation and development of the existing experiment. Additionally, they will be expected to enhance profile of the research group through the attendance of international conferences and to assist in the guidance of graduate students working on the experiment.

The post is full time and fixed term for a duration of 12 months.

Closing Date: 11 December 2017 (Midday)
