£27,285 to £31,604 per annum. Due to external funding restrictions we can offer a maximum starting salary of £28,936; you will receive annual increments up to the grade maximum, currently £31,604.

Open-ended subject to fixed-term funding, funding is available for three years from 1 March 2018 to 28 February 2021

This is an excellent opportunity to undertake research on massive machine-to-machine communications. This three-year project is funded by the EPSRC and is a collaboration with King's College London and Loughborough University.

The overarching aim of the project is to characterise traffic and interference in massive machine-to-machine communications and to develop advanced signal processing solutions for enhancing data rates and optimising spectral and energy resources. We will achieve this aim by advancing the state of the art technology in stochastic geometry, convex optimization and game-theoretic mechanism design. In particular, at Newcastle we will look at optimization for grouping based radio resource allocation and distributed coding techniques for machine-to-machine communications. A simulation reference model based on machine type communications in LTE and 5G will be developed for overall performance evaluation.

To apply for this position, you will need to be motivated, independent, hardworking and have excellent communication skills. You will have a first degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or related fields. You will be passionate to gain a deep understanding of related areas in communications signal processing. Additionally, you should have excellent skills in MATLAB/C, and experience in mathematically modelling. Furthermore, applicants will only be considered if there is a track record of publishing papers in leading research journals or equivalent knowledge.

You will work with the Principal Investigator, Professor Jonathon Chambers, who will be joining the University of Leicester on 1 December 2017, as Head of the Department of Engineering. You will also liaise with the collaborating research teams in London and Loughborough.
