Associate Professorship in Human Geography

The School of Geography and the Environment, in association with Mansfield College, seeks applications for a full-time Associate Professorship in Human Geography.

The Associate Professorship is tenable from 1 September 2018 or at an earlier or later date by negotiation and will be held in conjunction with a Tutorial Fellowship at Mansfield College under arrangements described in the further particulars. The post holder will be based at the School of Geography and the Environment, and Mansfield College, Oxford. The appointment will be for 5 years in the first instance, and upon completion of a successful review, the post holder will be eligible for reappointment to the retiring age.

The main duties of the post holder will be to engage in research, produce high-quality publications of an international standard and to teach, supervise and examine undergraduate and graduate students. Applicants should have a strong research interest in an area within, or complementary to, the principal areas of human geography research within the department. Other key duties include co-operating in the administrative work of the School and the College.

The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in human geography or a closely related field, have a proven track record of high-quality research and publications in human geography at an international level, as well as evidence of imaginative research plans and the potential to lead and manage new research initiatives. The ability to teach at both undergraduate and graduate level, and the skills and commitment to become a fully participating member of the School and College are also essential.

The Fellow will be entitled to a College housing allowance of £8,494 p.a. Associate professors who are awarded the title of full professor may receive from the University an additional salary payment of £2,700 p.a.
