Fixed-term for two years

Queen Mary University of London enjoys an outstanding international reputation for the excellence of its research and teaching in the Humanities and Social Sciences. The School of History is an innovative leader in a wide range of historical fields, and is renowned for its dynamic and supportive research environment. In recent years the School has been developing expertise in global and extra-European history with the appointments of Dr Kim Wagner, Dr Reuben Loffman, Dr Simon Layton, Dr Yossef Rapoport, and Dr Leslie James.

To provide cover during a two-year period of staff research leave, the School is seeking to appoint a Teaching and Scholarship Lecturer in World History from 1600 to the present. Preference may be given may be given to candidates with an African (especially South African) or Asian area of expertise. The post-holder will be required to develop and deliver modules at every level, to develop a third year Special Subject and possibly to deliver summer school teaching.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in history or equivalent, and experience in teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level. Higher education teaching accreditation e.g. Fellow of the HEA is desirable.

The post is full time and fixed-term for two years. The starting salary will be in the range £40,865 – £43,152 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, a defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
