Assistant Professor/Associate Professor in Quantitative Financial Risk, Actuarial Science or a Related Field

Location: Based at Riccarton Campus, near Edinburgh but with operation internationally

Salary: Assistant Professor Grade 7 £31,604 - £38,833; Assistant Professor Grade 8 £39,992 - £47,722; Associate Professor £49,149 - £56,950 (salary dependent on experience and qualifications)

The School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences (MACS) at Heriot-Watt University (HWU) welcomes applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor in the areas of actuarial science, quantitative financial risk management or a closely related field. Preference will be given to applicants whose research focuses on statistical and probabilistic methods with applications to actuarial and financial research questions.

The Department forms part of the Maxwell Institute for Mathematical Sciences, a joint research institute bringing together within a single body the research activities of the Departments of Actuarial Mathematics & Statistics and of Mathematics at Heriot-Watt University and the School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh. The Institute aims to be an internationally pre-eminent collaborative centre for research and for postgraduate training in the mathematical sciences, and to offer an environment that is able to attract and foster the very best mathematical talent from around the world. The Department is also a co-founder of the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS). The extensive programme of international workshops and meetings of ICMS further enhances the mathematical environment of the city.

To be considered for the role the candidate will be an established or potential international research leader in their field and will have the relevant experience to be able to engage in our teaching programmes. The successful candidate will also have the enthusiasm and ambition to build a world-class academic group in the discipline and to expand our successful postgraduate programmes into the areas of statistics and data science.
