Research Nurse, Wellcome Trust-MRC Institute of Metabolic Science (Part Time, Fixed Term)

Applications are invited to join a dynamic translational research team working to understand how intestinal signalling via gut hormones influences metabolic factors and eating behaviour. We are working closely with patients who have significantly altered gut hormone profiles after surgery for stomach or oesophageal cancer, and are developing pilot interventional studies to better understand the problems faced by this patient group. The role is based with the team of Professor Fiona Gribble and Dr Frank Reimann, and will support our research collaboration with the oesophago-gastric surgery service.

The post will suit a person who is highly motivated and wants to help people by contributing to scientific and clinical discoveries. The post covers a range of responsibilities which include research co-ordination as well as direct involvement in clinical research studies to include recruitment of participants, obtaining informed consent, taking blood samples and arranging collection of samples from theatre or pathology. Co-ordination duties include liaison with hospital staff and GPs to arrange collection of samples and clinical information and data entry and management.

This post would suit a nurse of NHS band 6 or equivalent, who is interested in developing a career in clinical research. Experience of research methods/skills would be an advantage but is not a necessity as full training will be provided. You will require a high degree of attention to detail, excellent communication and organisational skills and be able to work independently.

This post is part time, at 0.40 or 0.50 whole time equivalents.

Proposed start date: as soon as possible.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
