Founded in 2003, MetFilm is a successful and expanding education business based in Ealing Studios, which comprises the UK's fastest growing film school (MetFilm School), an award-winning feature film production company (MetFilm Production) and a screen content production company (MetFilm Creative).

MetFilm School offers digital filmmaking courses; aimed at inspiring and developing independent filmmakers.  It has campuses in London and Berlin and educates around 450 students on both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, which are validated by the University of West London. The School works closely with employers to offer innovative, practice-based undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, as well as an extensive offering of short courses.  Our employability statistics are a key element that make MetFilm stand out; 82% of our graduates are now working in the creative industries.

In 2018 MetFilm will launch a second school in London, Screenspace, which will draw on the best of MetFilm to provide a lower cost three-year BA programme (BA Hons Content, Media and Film Production), in partnership with our accreditation partner University of West London.

The Role: Head of ScreenSpace

MetFilm is looking to appoint an energetic, capable and ambitious person to establish and develop its new ScreenSpace programmes, as part of its growth strategy. The Head of ScreenSpace will work with the executive team to ensure the effective educational and operational requirements of ScreenSpace and to deliver the programme of courses and services which will complement the programme and courses provided across the wider MetFilm business. The appointed candidate will recruit and manage a team and lead on key educational, financial and operational matters, in addition to working with the Marketing and Admissions team to secure enrolments efficiently, and ensuring that the School develops a strong reputation and varied range of opportunities for its target market and, in so doing, becomes commercially successful.

The combination of educational experience and credibility; experience in the screen or media industries, together with good evidence of a commercial outlook, are essential.

Experience of leading and managing a higher education programme, education business or organisation, or a division of it, is important. The capacity to learn the business quickly and to identify new opportunities would be vital.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Planning and course development: work with the Director, CEO, Director of Marketing and Admissions, and CFO to develop and deliver the School’s strategy and business plan. In particular, strategic planning around new courses, branding, operational aspects etc.
  • Management and Leadership of the team, engaging with other members of the MetFilm leadership team to ensure consistency in provision of educational content and in marketing and student recruitment.
  • Educational: recruiting and leading the educational team to develop and deliver high quality programmes to agreed budgets, hitting KPIs on academic performance, feedback, progression and resource management. This includes management of the education team and academic administration, tutor recruitment, training and development alongside curriculum development and review as well as oversight of all policies, procedures and student communications.
  • Operational; short term planning to ensure a smooth launch, mid-longer-term planning, working with other colleagues at MetFilm to ensure effective planning, prediction and resourcing of space, equipment, staff and tutors as well as ongoing monitoring and review of space and resource requirements.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will have/be:

  • Experience of and skills in higher education and direct experience in film, television, screen content or related media are equally important; a background in education and/or the screen content industry is desirable;
  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to plan, timetable and budget.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Sound commercial sense and experience;
  • Understanding and experience in higher education from an academic, political and pedagogic perspective;
  • The ability to establish, lead and develop a team;
  • Knowledge of managing start up activity, growth and change;
  • Experience of leading and commanding respect amongst educators, students and operational/ commercial staff as well as at senior management level;
  • Ideally a Master’s degree and qualification in teaching or Higher Education.
