Teaching Associate (fractional, part-time)

Applications are invited to the above role. The primary purpose of the role will be to undertake undergraduate teaching as a member of the Neuroscience teaching team within an established programme of study. The role holder will ensure that the content, methods of delivery, and learning materials meet the defined learning objectives of undergraduate Neuroscience courses and will also contribute to curriculum development in the School.

Teaching duties will include the delivery of Lectures, Tutorials, Problem-based classes, and Supervision of laboratory work, and the assessment of student performance in each of these. In particular, the role holder will work closely with an existing member of academic staff (Dr Becky Trueman), and the role will include delivery of content in the following areas: Neuroscience and Physiology, as well as supervision of experiments using common physiological methods. In addition to the delivery of existing content, the role holder will be involved in the development of new teaching and assessment practices in these areas and disseminating these practices within the School/Faculty.

Candidates must hold a PhD or equivalent in Neuroscience or a related subject area, or hold an equivalent professional qualification. Experience of delivery and assessment of teaching in a Higher Education setting is a requirement, and it is desirable that candidates be supported by a Higher Education teaching qualification (or working towards). Candidates must have relevant experience in the specific areas of content to be delivered. Recent experience in module convenorship, use of Moodle (or similar online learning environment), and delivery of online assessments (e.g. with Rogo) are highly desirable.

This Fractional (Term Time) Fixed-Term role is available from 8 January 2018 to 14 January 2020. The hours per week are 25.5. The weeks to be worked across the terms in the first year are: 8 January 2018 to 23 March 2018; 23 April 2018 to 22 June 2018; and 17 September 2018 to 14 December 2018.
