Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Full-Time, Fixed Term until 11th January 2019

To create and contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range of activities within an established research programme and/or specific research project. The research fellow will work within the Rheumatology Research Group with Dr Stephen Young. The research project focuses on metabolomic analysis of patients with early arthritis or with Bechet’s disease from whom genomic data will also be derived in collaboration with the Weill Cornell University Qatar and the Broad Institute. We envisage that this person will enhance our understanding of how genetic polymorphism interacts with metabolism to promote the early stages of chronic inflammatory disease.

Person Specification:

  • First degree in chemical or biological science and a higher degree in which the ability analyse complex data sets is demonstrated
  • Experience in the analysis of complex biological data sets.
  • Preferably experience in NMR and/or mass spectrometry analysis of metabolites.
  • High level analytical capability
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
  • Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes

Starting salary is normally in the range £29,799 to £38,832. With potential progression once in post to £41,212 a year.
