Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Computing

University of Central Lancashire - School of Physical Sciences & Computing

Basis:  Indefinite – 2 posts available

Grade: Lecturer - H (£35550-41212)/Senior Lecturer - I (£42418-49149)

Interview Date: To be confirmed

Following a recent review of the curriculum, the School of Physical Sciences and Computing at UCLan is looking for two enthusiastic lecturers. These posts will enhance the computing portfolio, which has recently been expanded to include a new computer science course, new security-related MComp routes and revised MSc provision. We are seeking applicants who are able to contribute to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level in the broad areas of games development, software engineering and computer science and who can contribute industrial innovation or academic research.

Our focus in research and innovation centres around people and systems. The Human Computer Interaction (HCI) stream embraces the internationally recognised Child Computer Interaction (ChiCI) group and research and innovation in user experience (UX), digital fabrication and immersive learning (using VR and AR). The Security and Forensics research group emphasises understanding and modelling risk, trust and privacy with a particular focus on vehicular systems. As key players in the UK Agile Research Network (ARN), the study of agile systems in organisations is a central topic for the Software Systems and Engineering group.

As well as having skills to support teaching, successful applicants are expected to bring relevant research or industrial expertise and they will be expected to travel within the UK and overseas as part of their role. The appointments to these posts are expected to be at Lecturer level; however, an SL appointment could be available for a well-qualified candidate. Experience in writing academic papers, planning research or equivalent industrial experience of planning and writing technical documentation is essential for both the Lecturer and Senior Lecturer. Possessing an honours degree and PhD in relevant areas (or with equivalent industry experience), the successful applicant for both roles will also have the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders. Experience of teaching in HE or of developing, evaluating and delivering training materials in industry, is essential to be considered for the Senior Lecturer post. The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in teaching and research is essential for both roles.
