This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious researcher to join a dynamic research group and carry out innovative research in population health and global health. The overall theme of the research is analysing the past, current, or expected future levels and trends in population health, with a particular emphasis on chronic/non-communicable diseases (NCDs), using rich data and advanced statistical methods. The data may be global, national, or subnational, as well as at multiple levels. The work is at the cutting edge of global health science and policy, and arises from collaborative research with the World Health Organization and with an extensive worldwide network of scientists from most of the world’s countries, which will give the work far-reaching scientific and policy impact and visibility.

The position will be in the Environment and Global Health Research Group. The group is internationally renowned for its research on exposures and health effects of preventable risk factors and health forecasting. The research group is highly interdisciplinary and the post holder will also work closely with epidemiologists, statisticians, and clinicians in the group, at the School of Public Health and WHO Collaborating Centre on NCD Surveillance and Epidemiology, as well as at other leading global universities.

The successful candidate must have an exceptional aptitude for analytical and critical thinking about the nature of data and scientific problems with a focus on population health; strong communication capabilities; motivation for problem solving; aptitude for interdisciplinary research and teamwork; and ability to work and learn independently.

You will have an MSc for appointment to Research Assistant, or a PhD or equivalent (e.g. MD plus MSc), for appointment to Research Associate, in epidemiology, demography, population health, global health, biostatistics, or a related subject; have experience with population health data, especially on NCDs/chronic diseases and their risk factors; and track record of technical and scholarly excellence as demonstrated by publications and methods development and application.
