Professor/Reader in Physical Activity/Health & Wellbeing

An opportunity has arisen for a Professor or Reader in Physical Activity/Health and Wellbeing based in the School of Sport and Wellbeing.

Professor – A central part of this role is to undertake internationally recognised research, provide academic leadership for the School of Sport and Wellbeing’s programmatic research focused on physical activity/health and wellbeing and to lead the development of a research team and expand research and scientific support activity with colleagues and professional bodies to advance research across the School in keeping with the Faculty Delivery Plan. Essential for this role is experience of research management and administration in a university department or similar educational or research unit along with experience of research collaboration for example with NHS or other commercial organisations. Utilising excellent communications skills and a thorough understanding of the physical activity/health and wellbeing profession and related professions the successful applicant will have the ability to deal with complex situations including negotiation and influencing skills with a flexible approach which responds to the challenges of change.

The successful applicant with have a proven track record of successful supervisory experience of research students at doctoral level, securing research funding from a variety of grant awarding bodies and sponsors. A PhD (or equivalent) in a specific topic relevant to the post is essential along with a professional qualification in a physical activity/health and wellbeing subject and full membership of relevant accredited bodies.

Reader - Undertaking internationally recognised research will be the primary focus of this role as well as providing academic support for the School of Sport and Wellbeing’s programmatic research focussing on physical activity/health and wellbeing as well as supporting the development of a research team and expanding research and scientific support activity with colleagues and professional bodies to advance research across the School in keeping with the Faculty Delivery Plan.

The successful candidate will have research experience in a relevant topic, course/module leadership at all academic levels and supervision of research students. Evidence of strong publication record; success in obtaining competitive research funding as principal investigator; and making presentations at international conferences is an essential requirement as well as the ability to produce competitive research grant applications for significant projects. Utilising excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills the successful applicant will contribute to the development of research strategies in the School, lead a team and focus consultancy in these areas. The successful applicant will possess a PhD (or equivalent) in a specific topic relevant to the Faculty of Health & Wellbeing and a professional qualification in Physical Activity/Health and Wellbeing.
