Clinical Research Fellow

University of Leicester - College of Life Sciences - Department of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation

Full-time fixed term post for three years.

Together our staff and students are discovering innovative ways to change the world for the better and there has never been a more exciting time for you to join us. We are one of the top universities worldwide and have an international reputation for excellence in teaching and research. We are led by discovery and innovation, with the synergy between research and learning at the core of our activity.

In this NIHR funded role you will contribute to research projects looking at patients with undifferentiated chronic breathlessness focussed on understanding prognosis and developing new diagnostic pathways. There are two parts to the research; the first on understanding the characteristics and outcomes of this cohort to further understand ‘the breathlessness syndrome’. The second, to understand whether performing a ‘suite of simple investigations’ when patients first present lead to clinical and cost-effectiveness. The post will be linked to the Leicester Biomedical Research Centre - Respiratory.

You will be involved in recruiting candidates for the studies, gaining their consent and performing research visits, involving walking tests, frailty measures, muscle strength, blood tests and health-related questionnaires. You will analyse and interpret raw data from your own work and the work of others in the group, preparing it for publication.

The post is suitable for a clinically trained investigator, particularly those who are undergoing either GP or core medical training, and for those planning to enter the specialist training grade for cardiology or respiratory, and who are interested in pursuing a period of full time research leading to a higher degree (MD or PhD).

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be made to Dr Rachael Evans on or 0116 258 3663.

We anticipate that assessments will take place in Jan 2018.
