Teaching Associate in Modern Literature

Contract Type: Fixed term with a start date of 1 February 2018 and an end date of 31 January 2020.

This post is a fixed term position. The working commitment of the role will be as follows: 100% working commitment per week with effect from 1 February-30 June 2018 and 1 September 2018-31 January 2019, working 44 weeks per year (September-June).  With effect from the 1 February 2019, the working commitment will reduce to 50% working commitment per week 1 February-30 June 2019 and 1 September-31 January 2020, working 44 weeks per year (September-June).  The working pattern is to be agreed.

We have an exciting opportunity in the School of English for someone with a passion for teaching looking to use their expertise in Modern and Contemporary Literature to make an impact on both core and optional modules.

With over 50 members of academic staff, the School of English is able to offer outstanding teaching across a wide range of subject areas (English Literature, Film, Theatre and Performance, Creative Writing, Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, Historical Linguistics, Literary Linguistics, and English Language).

In this varied and dynamic role, you will be responsible for delivering both undergraduate and postgraduate modules.  Working alongside English Literature colleagues, the role will offer you an opportunity to deliver seminars, lectures and supervise undergraduate dissertations.  You will also be expected to assist as required with the administration of the School.

We are seeking candidates with a PhD (or be close to completing) in a literary topic that falls within the post-1900 period, as well as proven teaching ability, ideally with a teaching qualification.  As this role involves dealing with both undergraduate and postgraduate students, you will also need to demonstrate a strong commitment to student support and the ability to communicate complex theories and problems effectively.
