Full Professorship in Political Science/International Relations

Sciences Po

Job Description

Status: At the time of the recruitment, candidates must have the status of Full Professor in the French academic system, or an equivalent rank at a foreign university.

Discipline: Political Science/International Relations

Profile: The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong previous international experience in both teaching and research. S/he should be a specialist in the field of strategic and/or diplomatic studies and will be expected to focus their research on change within the international system, sociology of international actors, and new issues in international security.

Duties

Research

For his/her research activities, the successful candidate will be affiliated with the Centre for International Studies (CERI). S/he will be expected to develop innovative individual research projects and to contribute to collective research programs at CERI, in particular by taking initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation within international academic networks.

Over the past decades, CERI has developed a specific approach to the study of IR, which relies on the use of sociological traditions and is marked by its openness towards normative issues. Today, this approach is still present within the centre’s Research Axis, “Actors and levels of regulation in world politics”, which the successful candidate is expected to join.

Connections and collaborations could also be established with the Chair of Excellence in security studies and/or the CERI research group on multilateral action.

Teaching

Annual teaching duties are 128 master class-equivalent (CM) hours that can be divided into three 24-hour master classes and 56 CM hours of complementary pedagogical services (1 CM hour = 6.3 hours) at the three levels of teaching offered by Sciences Po: college (on one of the seven Sciences Po campuses), Master’s, and doctoral.

Candidates will have to demonstrate their ability to teach general courses in International Relations, and their willingness to contribute to the supervision of doctoral theses.

Sciences Po is an equal opportunity employer and encourages women candidates to apply.
