Head of Research

Historic Royal Palaces (HRP)

Historic Royal Palaces is the charity that looks after the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace, the Banqueting House, Kew Palace and Hillsborough Castle.  We help everyone explore the story of how monarchs and people have shaped society, in some of the greatest palaces ever built.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the curators’ team at Historic Royal Palaces. Providing line management to the members of the Research Team, you will lead our organisation-wide strategic initiative to develop a culture of academic research at Historic Royal Palaces, which is an Independent Research Organisation.

You will have substantial experience and expertise in managing research in a heritage or university environment, of making applications for research funding, and of delivering an MA programme.

Based at Hampton Court Palace but often travelling to the other five sites run by Historic Royal Palaces, you’ll be ambitious with a strong desire to bring about real change and raise standards.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD (or equivalent qualification/experience) in a relevant subject that might include Heritage Studies, Heritage Management, Art/Architectural History, Archaeology, or British/British and European History.

Closing Date: 27th December 2017
Interview Date: 11th January 2018
