Research Assistant in Interactive Visualisation

Abertay University - School of Design and Informatics

Full-Time (1.0 FTE), 18 months

Abertay University, in Dundee, Scotland, is a modern university with a global outlook, rooted in its local and national communities. In 2013 we marked the 125th anniversary of our foundation as an institution dedicated to supporting science, industry and the professions with a distinctive interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary approach to teaching, research and knowledge exchange.

The University now seeks to appoint a Research Assistant in Interactive Visualisation within the Division of Computing and Mathematics, part of the School of Design and Informatics to participate in a joint collaboration with Macmillan Cancer Support and the Digital Health and Care Institute.

The project aim is to develop an interactive modeling and visualisation tool to support planning and decision-making around the provision of services to support cancer patients. We have already appointed a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant who is leading development of the underlying computational models that allow optimisation and predictive modelling of service provision in light of future scenarios.

We are looking to recruit a software developer to build the interactive visualisation based on computer games technology. The interactive visualisation’s main purpose is to interrogate and configure in real time the underlying computational model. Macmillan staff will use the interface for service use profiling and supporting the design of future service provision.

The tool will be designed in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support and the Digital Health and Care Institute who will facilitate access to key user groups and stakeholders.

The successful applicant will have at least an undergraduate degree (2.1 or above) and a background in computer science or a related discipline, and a degree with a strong element of visualisation, games technology and/or Human Computer Interaction. Additional experience in UX would also be valuable.
