Phasefocus manufactures complete label-free, live cell time-lapse imaging and analysis systems, offering biologists a revolutionary new toolkit for gaining insights into cellular response and behavior. Based in Sheffield, UK, the company is a rapidly-growing spin-out from Sheffield University. The successful Application Scientist will join a growing Applications Team dedicated to ensuring Phasefocus’s current and potential customers obtain the best results possible and understand the full potential of our technology. This is a unique opportunity to join a young company at a very exciting time in its development.


The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside and be mentored by our existing, highly experienced and professional (Senior) Application Specialists. Duties will include, but not necessarily be limited to the following:

  • Participate in and ultimately perform on-site demonstrations of Phasefocus’s Live Cell Analysis products to potential customers to highlight how our products solve the customers’ biological problems
  • Provide technical guidance regarding Phasefocus’s products and give scientific support to customers to assist in the interpretation and troubleshooting of their experimental results using our Live Cell Analysis Systems
  • Professionally and efficiently triage, troubleshoot, and resolve complex customer queries as required
  • Proactively demonstrate Phasefocus’s core values of passion for science and depth of knowledge in every customer interaction
  • Train internal and external customers on Phasefocus’s products, application pipelines and workflows, in person and online.
  • Provide customer feedback to Commercial and Product development teams
  • Develop, write, and publish technical documentation and training materials to educate external and internal customers
  • Keep abreast of community knowledge regarding the live cell analysis and microscopy fields
  • For certain key customers, assist and collaborate in various analyses of data generated with our products, as required.
  • Travel required is likely to be 25-50%, although it could be higher at certain times

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or Genetics, with a strong experimental cell biology and microscopy component.
  • Individuals without previous experience in cell culture and microscopy need not apply.
  • Strong working knowledge of current methods and trends in Cell Biology as may be learned by reading literature, attending seminars and conferences, scientific discussions, etc.
  • Good understanding of statistical methods and other data analysis methodologies applicable to cellbased assays.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent customer interaction skills.
