Post-doctoral Research Assistants

Full-time, fixed term for 1 or 2 years

Applicants are invited to apply for 4 European Union-funded post-doctoral research assistant positions with Professor Julian Ma in the Molecular Immunology Group, Institute for Infection and Immunity at St George’s University of London. The posts are full-time fixed term. Two are for 2 years, and two are for 1 year.

The projects will build on extensive previous studies undertaken by Professor Ma’s research group and will aim to optimise expression of recombinant pharmaceuticals in plants. Successful applicants will work on projects involving molecular cloning of gene constructs, protein engineering, plant transformation, protein purification and characterisation, glyco-engineering and genome editing. Laboratory experience in different molecular cloning methodologies, analysis of nucleic acid and protein (PCR, ELISA, SDS PAGE/western blotting) and protein purification are essential. Previous experience of transient gene expression in plants, genome editing techniques or surface plasmon resonance would be an advantage.

The Molecular Immunology Group has extensive collaborations with European and overseas research groups, and the post holders will have the opportunity to attend international project meetings and conferences. Post holders will be required to play an active role in experimental planning, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and data presentation at scientific conferences and meetings. In addition, applicants will be given the opportunity to gain supervisory experience by being involved in the day to day management of BSc and Master’s project students within the group.

Applicants are expected to have a first degree in biological sciences and a PhD degree in a related area.

The salary for these posts are within the salary range of SGUL 5: £25,728 – £31,604 plus £3,027 London Allowance per annum.
