Head of School

Centre for Alternative Technology - Graduate School of the Environment (GSE)

The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) is seeking to appoint a leader for its Graduate School of the Environment (GSE). The Head of School will shape the future direction of GSE moving it from a period of turnaround to an exciting period of growth and development.

The School is part of CAT’s pioneering centre of sustainable education where it benefits from a range of eco demonstration facilities and academic staff rooted in the world of sustainability. Successfully attracting students from around the UK, EU and the wider world, the School caters to those with keen interests in architecture, energy, natural resources and big picture sustainability. The role has the potential to broaden the range of subjects through which the GSE teaches sustainability.

The GSE’s educational programme delivers inspirational and practical learning experiences relating to a broad range of sustainability themes that equip students with the professional knowledge and practical skills needed to achieve a sustainable future.

The Head of School will be a strong and effective people manager with a commitment to generating a reliable income to support CAT in its charitable and environmental endeavours, creating new revenue streams and improving existing ones.  This may be achieved through the development of the academic provision, increasing student numbers both onsite and through partnerships and by raising the profile of the GSE. The Head of School will ensure that the GSE operates effectively and capitalises on and grows its distinct market offer.

The post is based at the picturesque Llwyngwern site, just outside Machynlleth, in the foothills of the Snowdonia National Park and within easy reach of Cardigan Bay and Aberystwyth.

We are keen to hear from individuals who can demonstrate a track record of managing academic teams and developing postgraduate programme portfolios which are responsive to market demand and who are excited by the prospect of making a significant impact on the vitally important work of the Centre for Alternative Technology.  If you can demonstrate you meet these criteria and would like more information, please contact Joseph Crombie at The Spencer Group at joe.crombie@spencergroup.com with a covering letter and your CV quoting reference RH-CAT1.
