Post-doctoral Scientific Officer

The Mammal Society

Applications are invited for a two-year post-doctoral scientific officer position that will focus on investigating key evidence gaps that currently hinder the conservation of British Mammals.  This full-time post is available from 1st February 2018, and there is the potential for extension beyond the two years, subject to funding availability and candidate suitability.

The post-holder will be based in at the University of Sussex, Falmer, Brighton, within the research group of Prof. Fiona Mathews.

We are looking for someone with a passion for wildlife conservation who is skilled in landscape ecology and/or population modelling. The post-holder will examine threats to mammal conservation in Britain using multi-species analyses of distribution and change.  The work will involve the use of large-scale datasets and the ideal candidate should have excellent quantitative skills. A good track record of publishing scientific papers will be welcome, and the post-holder must be able to communicate well with a broader audience.  He or she must interact effectively with students, members of the public and policy makers, and will be responsible for running the Society’s citizen science projects.

Full details of the post can be downloaded here.

The closing date for applications is 13th December 2017.

Informal enquiries can be made to Prof Fiona Mathews, e-mail chair@themammalsociety.org
