Keele University is pleased to offer a range of Economics & Social Sciences Research Council (ESRC) funded postgraduate research studentships across a number of Social Science pathways, which aim to attract outstanding candidates to join our vibrant research community of over 300 postgraduate research students and 200 academic staff.

Keele University is a member of the Northwest Social Sciences Doctoral Training Partnership (NWSSDTP), one of fourteen DTPs in the UK, created by the ESRC to provide an outstanding environment for postgraduate research training and development. The NWSSDTP comprises the Universities of Keele, Liverpool, Lancaster and Manchester and provides Master's and PhD students with access to funding and quality research training in social science disciplines. Students will have access to research training and expertise across the Universities of Liverpool, Keele, Manchester and Lancaster.

For 2018-2019 we are offering a range of studentship opportunities within and across the following pathways:

  • Criminology, Social Policy and Social Work
  • Economic & Social History
  • Health & Wellbeing
  • Social Studies of Science, Technology & Medicine
  • Socio-Legal Studies

In 2018, Keele is launching a major new initiative, the Institute for Social Inclusion.  The Institute will be bring together researchers from across the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and other disciplines, to carry out excellent research which aims to promote egalitarian respect and to understand and remove the barriers to social inclusion. 

A full studentship includes an annual tax-free stipend at RCUK rate (currently £14,553), plus tuition fee waiver of £4,195.  The full package is worth £18,748 per year for three years.
