Senior Clinical Lecturer in Cardiology/Cardiovascular Science

University College London - UCL Population Science and Experimental Medicine Research Department MRC Unit for Lifelong Health and Ageing

This is an exciting new HEFCE funded post for a clinical senior lecturer in cardiology or pharmacology, to establish a portfolio of work on healthy cardiovascular ageing and chronic cardiovascular disease in older age.  UCL is home to all four of the national UK birth cohorts, which have collected extensive quantitative social data, in association with biological and psychological information.  Additionally UCL houses bespoke older age cohorts, such as Whitehall II, SABRE and ELSA.  You will exploit this rich cross cohort resource to understand cardiovascular risks and consequences associated with healthy and unhealthy ageing.  You will be based within the MRC Lifelong Health and Ageing (LHA) Unit (Director Professor Chaturvedi) within the Population Science and Experimental Medicine Research Department (Head professor Alun Hughes), itself within the Institute of Cardiovascular Science (Director Professor Aroon Hingorani).  UCL has recently established the Bloomsbury Centre for Clinical Phenotyping (BCCP), with state of the art cardiovascular imaging technologies including two MRI scanners.

You will play a key role in embedding precision cardiovascular phenotyping in the UCL cohorts, and in particular the renewal plans for the MRC LHA Unit.  You will also have an NHS clinical contract.

You will have a PhD, a track record of research published in high impact journals and leadership on grant income.  The post is full time, reporting to Professor Hughes and accountable to Professor Chaturvedi.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team of statisticians, epidemiologists, social scientists and other clinicians.
